Kumbh Mela
For an eternal life free of sins the kumbh festival is held in every 12 years at prayag on the banks of holy rivers in Haridwar at river The Ganga, in Nasik at the Godavari. Depending on the position of Sun, Moon, and Jupiter hold in that period in different zodiac signs, the venue for Kumbh Mela is decided. There are 4 kumbha melas held during different seasons according to the position of sun, moon and Jupiter. These are:
Kumbh Mela at Allahabad
When Jupiter is in Aries or Taurus and Sun and Moon are in Capricorn during the Hindu month of Magha (January-February).
Kumbh Mela at Haridwar
When Jupiter is in Aquarius and Sun is in Aries during the Hindu month of Chaitra (March-April).
Kumbh Mela at Ujjain
when Jupiter is in Leo and Sun is in Aries, or when all three are in Libra during the Hindu month of Vaisakha (April-May).
Kumbh Mela at Nasik
when Sun and Jupiter are in Leo during the Hindu month of Bhadraprada (August-September).

The Prayag (Allahabad) Kumbh Mela is the largest of all melas and is believed that the mela is the holiest. On important bathing dates, lakhs of pilgrims from through out World take bath on the banks of the holy Sangam. The Purna (complete) Kumbh or Maha Kumbh, is the biggest and the most auspicious fair, which falls once in every 12 years will be held from 14th January the day of Makar Sankranti to 25th February MahaShivratri at Allahabad.  The main bathing days are known as 'Shahi Snans' or 'Royal Bathing Days'.  The Royal Bathing day is schedule on 10th february, Mauni Amavasya snan.
Allahabad welcomes all the Sadhus and piligrims to Maha Kumbha Mela. Important dates of Maha Kumbha Mela:
     14th January 2013 (Monday):  Makar Sankranti
    27th January 2013(Sunday):  Paush Purnima
    10th February 2013(Sunday):  Mauni Amavasya Snan (Main Bathing Day)
    15th February 2013(Friday): Basant Panchami Snan
    17th February (Sunday):  Rath Saptami Snan
    18th February (Monday):  Bhisma Ashtami Snan
     25th February 2013 (Monday):  Maghi Purnima Snan
    10th March 2013(Sunday): Maha Shivratri
